Do you have chronic neck, shoulder, arm, or upper back pain that never quite gets better? Is it hard to turn your neck or check your blind spot when driving?

Alongside the lower back, the neck is one of the biggest – if not the biggest contributor to physical pain. Many of the patients we treat at Apex Orthopedic Rehabilitation come to us with neck issues. The neck is at the root of all kinds of physical problems, from headaches and migraines, pain that radiates down the arms to vertigo, dizziness, and chronic fatigue.

But sometimes, when you feel pain and stiffness in your neck along with a lack of mobility or ability to turn your head. The actual problem is often something to do with the spine or instability in the upper back and shoulders that are at the root of your neck pain and stiffness. Why? Because when there is a lack of strength and stability in the upper back and shoulders. Even simple daily tasks like sitting at your desk at work or scrolling on your smartphone put intense pressure on your neck and spine, leading to pain.

There is a whole spectrum of different neck issues and neck pain severity levels. Some of the patients we see have mild pain and stiffness, which limits their ability to move their necks properly. In contrast, others have disabling neck pain that stops them in their tracks and forces them to stop everything. The critical thing to remember is that earlier intervention and treatment prevent you from moving from neck stiffness, a minor irritation, to pain that leaves you unable to work or socialize. Or worse still, needing surgery to repair the damage from the years of ignoring the pain and "putting up with it."

Neck pain of any severity is downright miserable because very few activities don't involve moving your neck, so it's difficult to rest the neck. Every time you move, twist, or turn, the pain is right there. Even lying down hurts because you can't seem to get into a comfortable position when you have neck pain, magnified when you get into bed at night and try to sleep.

That’s the bad news, but the good news is that we successfully treat patients with neck, shoulder, arm, and upper back pain daily at Apex Orthopedic Rehabilitation. It's one of the most common pain issues we treat.

“But Why is This Happening to me?”

or

“WHY DO I STILL HAVE NECK PAIN AFTER 6 MONTHS+?”

Hopefully, you haven’t been in pain every day for 6+ months. But many of the patients we see have waited that long, sometimes even longer. Mistakenly believing that everyone gets neck pain – especially above a certain age. But this is a misconception. Your neck should move freely without pain or stiffness, regardless of age, and something is wrong if it doesn't. You need a physical therapist ASAP before things get worse.

Have you had neck pain for over 7 days?

If your neck pain has been hanging around for more than a week. You've probably seen a doctor who more than likely told you to take anti-inflammatory medication and to “take it easy” and come back and see them if the pain doesn't improve. Sadly, for most people, the pain doesn't improve. They waste hours returning back and forward to the doctor’s office only to be given more lousy advice.

If You’ve Been Putting Up With Neck Pain For A While, Don’t Feel Bad. Many Of Our Patients Tell Us That They:

  •  “Thought the pain would go away on its own” (it didn’t)
  • Went to their doctor who told them it was probably arthritis."
  • "Thought exercising more would help, but things got even worse."
  • "Saw a specialist who told them that surgery could be an option, but their pain wasn't bad enough yet."
  • "Stayed home to rest, on the doctor's advice, but the pain is still there, and their neck feels even stiffer than it did before."

Does that sound like you?

If it does, make this the last day you put up with neck pain.
