In my practice, I’ve noticed over the years that many of my patients – especially those with spine related problems – will return for treatment soon after the end of the winter.
The common variable? In the wintertime, people are just not as active as they are during the spring, summer and fall; they are more sedentary and more homebound. Your body wants to move no matter what season it is! Sitting around for extended periods of time can be harmful to your body.
Since we’re just in the middle fall, I want everyone to make plans to join a gym and find ways to become more active to avoid the “winter effect”. This can include taking up winter hiking, joining a gym, or a walking program at a local mall (in addition to the home exercises I’ve given you, of course). Sometimes it’s hard to get moving during the winter months, but getting started is half the battle. Your body will thank you for it.
